Pete's Greens is an Active Farm in the Vermont Community
Summer 2008 Vegetable/Localvore Share, June 18th - October 15th

This share period we are offering two different share types:

  • Vegetable/Localvore Share - Combines a weekly selection of seasonal organic
vegetables, prepared items from Pete’s Greens Kitchen and an assortment of
“localvore” products from our favorite nearby food growers and producers.
  • Vegetable Only Share - Includes only our vegetable offerings listed below.

Vegetable Offerings
By June, our greens are growing, our fields are blooming and the offerings become more
diverse as the season progresses. Heirloom and beefsteak tomatoes, mesclun, various
greens, onions, carrots, eggplant, cucumber, broccoli, cauliflower, artichokes, herbs, sweet
and hot peppers, summer and winter squash are just a handful of the vegetables that we
grow. We started as a farm catering to high-end restaurants and continue to grow many of
the unique and heirloom varieties requested by our chefs. Please note that we do not grow a
lot of sweet corn, and that we will probably include it in your share only once. Please check
our
yearly produce availability chart (pdf version) (html version) for a complete list of
selections.

Pete’s Greens Kitchen Specialties
Prepared items from Pete's Greens Kitchen may include fresh salsa, pesto, gazpacho,
pickles, pizza dough and pie dough. This list may be expanded as we develop additional
recipes on the farm.

Localvore Offerings
This period’s offerings may include Pete's free-range eggs; many varieties of apples,
applesauce, cider and butternut squash puree from Champlain Orchards; yogurt, cream,
cornmeal, and dried beans from Butterworks Farm; an array of Northeast Kingdom sheep,
cow and goat cheeses; bacon and/or sausage; whole wheat bread & pastry flour from
Gleason Grains; Vermont Soy tofu; Localvore bread from Elmore Mtn. Bakery, Patchwork
Bakery and Red Hen Baking Company; oyster and shiitake mushrooms; popcorn, rolled
oats, pearled barley, butter, and miso from several Quebec farms; dried cranberries from
Vermont Cranberry Company; fruit pie; and local raw honey. Most items are certified organic
with the exception of the apples, cider, cranberries, some of the cheeses and eggs. See
www.ChamplainOrchards.com for an explanation of their growing practices. Localvore
perishable items such as apples, yogurt & cream will be provided more frequently. Staples
such as flour and beans will be provided in greater quantity but less often.

What some of our members are saying about Pete's Greens Good Eats...

“We are so happy you have chosen to provide winter and Localvore shares…it is wonderful that
you do this, and do it so well. It clearly takes an enormous amount of work, energy and
dedication. Thank you. We are telling all our friends about you and they are interested!”-
Christine O.

“It was fun to receive items in our weekly share that we would not otherwise have in the
house…and would not otherwise try. We especially like the greens, carrots, potatoes, beets and
turnips.”-Janet S
