Spring 2008 Vegetable/Localvore Share, through June 11th

The Vegetable/Localvore Share combines a weekly selection of seasonal organic
vegetables from Pete’s Greens with an assortment of “localvore” products from our favorite
nearby food growers and producers.

The Spring Share is Now Full.

Please check out our Summer Share for 18-weeks worth of local, organic
vegetables and other locally grown and produced items.

Vegetable Offerings
We have just completed a new greenhouse complex that will allow us to produce more great
greenery earlier than ever. The first part of this share was very heavy on storage crops from
last year's abundant harvest. April includes greenhouse delicacies such as mesclun, baby
pac choi, Asian greens, kale, and chard. In May, more greenhouse items will mature
including bunched beets and salad turnips, napa, scallions and mini onions. Late May and
early June are full summer at Pete's Greens with zukes, Euro cukes, the first tomatoes and
possibly eggplant. Earlier in the share period when vegetable offerings are limited we'll
emphasize localvore food, later in the period you'll be rewarded with more, fresh grown
veggies. Please check our
yearly produce availability chart (pdf version) (html version) for
more information.

Localvore Offerings
This period’s offerings may include prepared and preserved foods from Pete's Greens
including “everything but the kitchen sink” vegetable soup base, sauerkraut & other lacto-
fermented vegetables; Pete's free-range eggs; many varieties of apples, applesauce, cider
and butternut squash puree from Champlain Orchards; yogurt, cream, cornmeal, and dried
beans from Butterworks Farm; an array of Northeast Kingdom sheep, cow and goat
cheeses; whole wheat bread & pastry flour from Gleason Grains; Vermont Soy tofu;
Localvore bread from Elmore Mtn. Bakery and Patchwork Bakery; oyster and shiitake
mushrooms; sunflower oil, popcorn, rolled oats, pearled barley, butter, and miso from
several Quebec farms; cranberry juice from Vermont Cranberry Company; and local raw
honey. Most items are certified organic with the exception of the apples, cider, cranberries,
some of the cheeses and eggs. See
www.ChamplainOrchards.com for an explanation of
their growing practices. Localvore perishable items such as apples, yogurt & cream will be
provided more frequently. Staples such as flour and beans will be provided in greater
quantity but less often.

What some of our members are saying about Pete's Greens Good Eats...

“We are so happy you have chosen to provide winter and Localvore shares…it is wonderful that
you do this, and do it so well. It clearly takes an enormous amount of work, energy and
dedication. Thank you. We are telling all our friends about you and they are interested!”-
Christine O.

“It was fun to receive items in our weekly share that we would not otherwise have in the
house…and would not otherwise try. We especially like the greens, carrots, potatoes, beets and
turnips.”-Janet S
